Just a quick post to tell everyone that I’ve arrived! My flights were really fantastic — the most rested I’ve felt on long-haul in a very long time! From Brunei to Singapore, I had my Nintendo DS Lite to keep me company, and then mum and I spent an afternoon at Orchard Road. Singapore-London was aided by two sleep-inducing travel sickness pills, which sent me off to dreamland for about 10 on-and-off hours. And right now, it’s 2.14 am Brunei time (7.14 pm in London) and I’m hardly feeling tired. ‘Tis excellent. (:

Brunei Hall errands were sorted out today, and tomorrow is bank day. I don’t move into Halls till this Sunday, so I have way too much time to kill before registration.

While waiting in line for our medical checkup at Heathrow, I engaged in a pretty good conversation with a Singaporean girl who is off to Cambridge to study Medicine (and who subsequently made me feel inadequate, ha ha!), and ran into a Singaporean guy who’s reading Economics at LSE. I have never felt so chatty at 7.00 am before.

Being in a new-ish city makes me realise how much I took boarding house life, and Victoria’s easily-navigable streets for granted. I thought Trafalgar Square was north-ish of London. LMAO.

I’ve had an awesome last couple of days.

Sunday was spent with the old MS gang at Muara Beach. At $5 a head, the organisers outdid themselves in terms of food! I wanted more chicken wings, but was too princessy to eat too many of them with my hands — and you know what they say about chicken wings! Oh, yes you do~ I got to catch up with people, particularly those who (ahem) ditched me to begin their A Levels in the UK the September of the January I left for Melbourne, and that made my day. Suan and I were fashionably late, because her parents thought they were sending us to Berakas Forest Reserve, and we made quite a grand entrance if we do say so ourselves. Giggle. Three hours at the beach, lovely weather, getting to use my aviators properly for the first time since KL… it was a good day.

Monday morning, Amanda forced me out of bed to join her at Fitness Zone for a morning of pilates and badminton. I had to follow my mum down, so I arrived at Fitness Zone way before our intended meeting time of 9.00 am and ran on the treadmill for a bit. I’m nowhere near my previous Boarding House fitness levels (though the only times I ran were just before our Formals, in a desperate attempt to lose a bit of weight and look better in that dress, and it was adrenalin that pushed me forward), but it felt good to finally begin to work out properly. The physical pain was awesome! Pilates, however, was a different story. Oh fairy goodness — I nearly DIED at the beginning of the session, and that there was a middle-aged man grunting in an attempt to complete the routines didn’t help my case either. ): Two days later, and I’m suffering from the most intense muscle aches I’ve ever felt before. My abdominal muscles in two significant places ache so badly that I can’t cough or sit up properly. Amanda, are you feeling the burn?! We also played badminton after, and I discovered that Amanda has tapped into a previously-unknown source of inner strength which make her smashes deadly. Whoa. After another stint on the treadmills, I finally went back.

Monday night and early Tuesday morning were spent in bed, suffering from a terrible bout of the common cold. But I got out of bed to make my medical check-up in the afternoon at RIPAS. My dad and I managed to do our rounds there quickly, finishing within an hour. And the blood test bloody (no pun intended) hurt — and I did it in my aunt’s lab under one of her most trained staff member too.  I have a puncture wound on my left arm now, to match the puncture wound on my right arm from donating blood! I think we could’ve gone to Kiarong for my Mantoux and the Dental Centre too, but my dad ended up hanging out with my aunt in her office and was too lazy after to send me. We did end up stopping by Serology to personally hand them my blood sample, because we missed the medical van! It’s good to have a dad who has worked in the hospital for ages. (: Medical check-up day 1, completed.

Today! Medical check-up, day 2. Dental clinic first thing in the afternoon, and then we dropped by the TB headquarters in Kiarong for my Mantoux. And it really wasn’t that bad! If you must know, my cousin and I swapped stories of post-needle trauma fainting the day I nearly lost consciousness after donating blood. His story? He nearly fainted shortly after having his Mantoux test done in the UK; apparently, it really hurt, and he was fed a cup of hot tea by the nurses at the clinic after his fainting spell. I was prepared for the worst when I arrived this afternoon, so maybe that was why the shot didn’t really hurt after all. Needle prick was normal — the blood donation needle hurt way more ): and there were only about 3 seconds of discomfort while the reagent was pushed under my skin, which bloated up like a blister. Quite cool, actually. (:

And now, I be off to watch TV!

Today, I activated my LSE email account! And with such access, I have also joined the LSE network on Facebook. Oh, loads of good things are happening this weekend, as well as next week. (:

And ooh, I would love a new pair of thongs — as light as the ones I currently own, and which provide ample freedom of movement yet still making me look good. I would also like them in a shade which I can easily match. Fuchsia sounds good, though white is classic and I’m certain dark blue with a metallic trim would be evergreen. However, they are pricey, and I can’t find any good ones here; and I know no one about to make a trip to Australia who would purchase a pair for me. Oh, the agony. My current pair is getting quite worn out, and won’t last another six months. However,  these are of the most beautiful colour imaginable — and they fit well, are oh-so-comfortable and have served me well over the past year. I love my thongs.

To bed I go!
