(1) CS: Las Vegas used to be my favourite television show — in fact, the first show I can claim I was ever hooked to. I’ve seen every episode from the pilot to the Season 5 finale, but as soon as the personal plotlines grew increasingly ludicrous, my interest began to wane, even though Rafidah watched it loyally for a very long time after. Remember the times we’d marathon-watch the show at our own places and text each other when we got really excited about the episodes, Rafidah? I recall freaking out when George Eads was being shot at (ep. 108?) and spazzing about the episode with you! And while you may always be loyal to Grissom, I still maintain that Archie Kao is the undisputed King of the  show, haha!

(2) I used to think 24 was the best show in existence, back when I had the show on DVD and marathon-watched seasons like there was no tomorrow. Jack Bauer and his “damn it“s really defined my O Level years — I used to be so obsessed! The best way to watch the show, in my opinion, is marathon-style, and I was waiting till all the episodes of Season 6 had been released before I watched them. Unfortunately, it never happened.

Shows I’m into that aren’t on the list: The Amazing Race; Gossip Girl; Gilmore Girls (!!!)

Your take on this, KCS?

stockholm Friday, Dec 19 2008

I’m updating from Stockholm! – although this will be a short one because I don’t like the idea of people seeing what I’m typing here in the communal computer lab. Stockholm so far has been pretty excellent; it isn’t the sort of city I imagined it to be, but in some ways it has been quite an adventure. The city’s tiny, and you can practically walk from one end to another (well, the areas you’d want to be in anyway!) within 20 or so minutes. We’ve got one more morning and afternoon ahead of us before we fly off to Norway tomorrow, so we’re off to Scandinavia’s largest open-air museum (or something along those lines) as our last tourist destination here. Standard of living is pretty high (but I bet that’s because the pound has been so weak recently) and I’m actually glad to be going back to London where a decent meal costs 5 pounds (not 10!) and I don’t seem to haemorraging money everywhere.

Uppsala, which is Sweden’s fourth-largest town and has the country’s oldest university and Scandinavia’s oldest cathedral, was a breath of fresh air from Stockholm though. It was such a breath of fresh air (literally and metaphorically) to be able to escape from Stockholm overnight and wander around a university town which has been built around a tertiary institution established on scientific achievements. Oh my gosh, I sound like a top-class geek now, so I’ll stop with this rambling. IN ANY CASE. Uppsala was beautiful. The castle, the cathedral and the university grounds and surrounding buildings were absolutely amazing, and our hostel was so clean and nice as well. I had a good time — and we’re back in Stockholm today!

Okay I’m going to log out now so people can use this. Will update in due course. BISOUS.

Oh my God, this essay is going nowhere.

sunday Monday, Dec 8 2008

Why hello! In the one week that I’ve neglected WordPress, it seems to have become more spiffy. I like!

Everyone’s either at dinner this evening, or at an OCF Christmas Outreach thing at the King’s College Chapel on the Strand. On the other hand, I’m the only one at home at this evening; after playing netball against Red Ayamz for a solid three hours this late morning and afternoon, the only thing I want to do is bum in front of my laptop, eat ice cream (this new, special edition Haagen-Dazs flavour “Caramel Biscuit and Cream Speculoos”, whatever that means, is so good!) and wonder how I’m going to finish my PIL essay for this Thursday without having done any of the reading. (What’s new, eh?)

(I’m already halfway through my pint of ice cream. EFF, someone stop me from finishing it! If I eat all this and not do any work, I will really feel crap…)

This week is going to be fun: trying to juggle two essays, Malam Bakti, Leonard’s birthday celebrations, another dose of ice skating, netball, and carolling. Christmas is just around the corner, and I’m really excited about it. This time last year was spent in London with Arlie, Brendan and Charli (ABC!). This year, Smae, Nat Tan and Joyce will be up to bring some Australian sunshine my way. I already have a rough itinerary for them, which includes some off-the-beaten-track tourist attractions around London — Dennis Severs’ House, Borough Market and the South Bank, and stuff that isn’t the Big Ben and Westminster that people associate London with.

Also within my winter schedule, I have to fit in time to see Twelfth Night by the RSC, Avenue Q  before it ends on the West End, and do something about my hair.

And between that last paragraph and this one, I’ve spoken to both Grace and Tim on the phone, guzzled the whole pint of ice cream.. and done nothing much else in between. SIGH. It’s always during times like these that I turn to TV. Everyone will allege that  it’s a Tash-thing — there’s a direct correlation between the number of assignments due in and the number of episodes of TV watched. This time around, it’s Skins. Where’s my motivation? AIYA.

I’ve uploaded a heap of Facebook photos from the Newman House Christmas Party, which I attended with Amanda, Kev, Elaine, Ian (Cheng), Ian (Tan), Terri and Kelvin. There was wine, drunken charades, carolling, and dancing; it was a good party. There’re also random photos from my society’s ice skating trip to Somerset House, and my infamous (and sometimes stupid) mobile phone shots. So if you’re a friend of mine, go check them out!

Back to work. (ugh)

aiya! Monday, Dec 1 2008

Amanda remarked today that she doesn’t get to see me anymore — that somehow, I’ve managed to make myself disappear off the surface of the earth. I guess she’s right in a sense, because somehow every week, I manage to cram my schedule full of things that I’m never at home. If I’m not in the Library doing work because my internet went poof last week, then I’m playing netball with the LSE Netball Club in far away places like Berrylands or Canada Water, or spending time with Tim (kidnapper!). I’ve just written out my schedule for the next week, and I’m doing something every night of the week except for Saturday, and I’m double-booked on Friday night (eff). Next week goes a little like this:

Monday: Netball @ Queen Mary (night)
Tuesday: Shaun’s birthday shindig
Wednesday: Moot (CRAPSHITDIE), followed by Retrophilia at night
Thursday: Ice skating with the Indo-Brunei Society
Friday: Newman House Christmas Dinner / Mamma Mia! (I have tickets for the first, not the second… but I committed to the second item. DIE)
Saturday: FREE = ESSAY DAY
Sunday: Netball with the girlies, followed by an OCF gathering at night.

And then the weekafter continues with Leonard’s birthday celebrations, Malam Bakti, Spamalot before it leaves the West End…

… And the week after that, Jiang Yue, Amanda and I will be hitting Sweden and Denmark for the start of the Christmas Break! Three Melbourne friends will also be flying up to visit over the course of winter — all three are separate trips, but everyone knows each other, which should be heaps of fun. I’m beginning to love this yearly Australian invasion! France with Jiang Yue and a couple of Singaporean guys also beckons during the last week of the holidays. Winter will be so much fun! (I just have to get through this essay season first.)

On Friday, Jiang Yue and I caught Rain Man on West End. The initial pull factor was Mr. Josh “Hot Pants” Hartnett, but we came to realise over the course of the play that he is actually a decent actor — although he can’t hold a torch to Adam Godley — and all of us were remarkably surprised. It was 31 pounds well spent in our opinions. (: (Psst, Jiang Yue cried, hahaha!)

I also attended my first of what will undoubtedly be several shows that Grace was crewing at UCL on Saturday night. The production still affirmed my hatred of West Side Story, but I have to give props to the Theatre Society — they put on a damn good show, because what the audience saw was of a calibre no one really expected of students. And the painted bricks on the set were awesome as well, Gracie. (:

Tim just got back from Dublin, and we’re all heading off for dinner somewhere once they arrive in Central London. I’m going to go back to my books and attempt to do moot preparation. Update you soon dears!

loathe Monday, Dec 1 2008

I hate how one week on, the guilt still remains as I walk past the same bus stop.
